Welcome

Dear Trailblazers, iGens and Friends:

The 2018 Rhodes – Henderson family reunion committee is very pleased to announce the details of our 38th Reunion on the web site. We have noticed that our family has grown in size. Since our fore parents, Milton Rhodes and Phyllis Ivins were united in holy matrimony in 1869. So, this is our attempt to get everyone together, share our history, and create new memories.

We are honored to plan and host our family reunion. We have worked hard to put together a weekend of activities and entertainment that all will enjoy.

We have limited one meal with activities per day so everyone can have some free time to spend with whomever they please. We have also planned a community service event, a pictorial directory, and a cash prize raffle while we’re catching up as well.
Oklahoma is the place where African Americans owned more land than anywhere else in the United States. Lawton is the location of our first recorded family reunion which was coordinated by Johnnie and Bessie Rhodes. Fort Sill is where the Buffalo Soldiers were stationed in 1870.

The 2018 host site is a great place to explore Native American History, outdoor recreation, wildlife habitat for bison, elk, and deer to include museums and casinos.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact someone for assistance.

Spiritual and Sincerely,

RHodesR Committee

Our Family Reunion

RHodes Family Story

Rhodes family history is traced back to Edgefield, South Carolina and slave owner Collin Rhodes.1 Historical records trace the lineage of Rhodes family history to Primus and Mary Rhodes. The two were enslaved Africans at the time of their birth in the early 19th Century.

It was not probable that Primus and Mary Rhodes decided to leave South Carolina on their own volition and travel to Bienville, Louisiana, and thus must have traveled with their slave owner. A search of slave owners with the last name of Rhodes traveling from South Carolina to Bienville Parish, Louisiana with slaves, revealed slave owner Collin Rhodes of Edgefield, South Carolina.2 It is also speculated that Primus and Mary's last name Rhodes was not their African familial name, but rather given to them by their enslaved master Collin Rhodes.2
